Surrey Hills Baby Clothes Library

Making a difference to the planet and keeping money in your pocket for making memories

About Our Services

Who can use the library?
All families

We lend boxes of baby clothes from Newborn to 24 months. So, if you have (or are going to have) a baby/toddler you can borrow from our library.

The library benefits families by saving money, the planet by reducing consumption, and the community by creating cohesion.

What is in a box?
Clothes

We try to fill each box with the basics you need like vests and sleepsuits, as well as a range of tops, trousers, dresses or dungarees, and often a coat. We also include accessories like socks and hats.

We can’t guarantee that everything you want will be in a box, but we do our best, using the clothes donations we are given.

What does it cost?
It’s free

We don’t charge for using the library. We ask for a refundable £20 deposit, returnable when you finish using the library.

We are always grateful for a donation to the library for the use of the boxes, our suggested donation is £5 per box. This helps the library to keep running, covering costs like washing the clothes and for the boxes that we keep them in.

How does it work?
It’s easy

Let us know what size box you need and when you will need it, if we have a box available you can reserve it, pay the deposit, and pick it up.

Hire lengths are flexible, as no two children grow at the same rate. Keep your box as long as you need it, then swap for the next size. Keep swapping until you outgrow our biggest size, 24months.

About Us

We are local parents wanting to help families while reducing consumption. We run the library voluntarily as a Community Interest Company, which is Not For Profit.

The clothing we supply comes from donations from local families, whose children have outgrown perfectly wearable clothing. We cover costs through donations from families using our library, and through fundraising. We really appreciate the donations we receive.

Testimonials

Hear what families have to say about the library.

“This is a fantastic idea and I’m so glad I came across it. It has saved me so much money and time that I would have spent looking for clothes otherwise. There are loads of clothes in each box and it makes much more sense than buying new.”
Lydia

“A great way of saving money and reducing environmental impact. I currently have a 6-9 month box and there is so much in there including clothes for all seasons, sleeping bags and bibs. Thank you so much – I love that I don’t need to buy clothes that will only be used for a matter of weeks!”
Stephanie

“I’ve just picked up a newborn box (unisex) and I’m so happy. Everything is very clean and lovely. This is such a great initiative. Thank you Rachel and Nicky!”
